Betsy Stowe, a freelance writer and photographer specializing in feline behavior, is author of the book Calico Tales and Others (Infinity Publishing - www.buybooksontheweb.com), a collection of many of her award-winning cat poems and photos. Her book won the CWA Muse MedallionTM and the World's Best Cat Litter®'-ary Award for 2004. She is editor of CWA's quarterly newsletter Meow and has been published numerous times in various magazines, books, and on the web.

Symphony in Counterpoint

Covert calico chases shadows in the night,
Attacking toys in her controlled kitty kingdom.
Petite panther pounces, pawing, purring,
Satisfying distant, primal desire.

Complicated companion, curious Cheshire grin,
Beautiful, graceful, mysterious little lion,
Sleeping here upon satin pillow, warm —
A peaceful presence.

Faithful friend,
Fanciful and ferocious,
Delicate, yet daring,
I delight in thy duality.
