Conference Committee: Assist in organizing annual conference. Also needed are people to do jobs on site at the hotel, such as Friday and Saturday morning registrations, Sunday cleanup, receiving and displaying banners. CWA President and vice president co-chair this committee.
Information & Guidelines Coordinator: Coordinator requests writers' guidelines from magazine and other editors for display on information tables at the annual conference. Also receives and organizes publicity material from non-attending CWA authors and from non-attending sponsors of CWA contest awards. Needs committee volunteers on-site, for example, to help put up and take down displays.
Door Prizes Committee: Chairperson solicits and collects items from corporate and individual doorprize sponsors to be given away during the conference. Coordinates door prize drawings and donation of leftovers to charity. Needs committee volunteers especially to do pre-conference e-mail solicitations and post-conference thank-you notes. Chair hosts the bag-stuffing party Thursday night.
Editor/Agent Liaison: Initiate contacts for editors and agents to attend annual conference.
Editor Appointment Coordinator: Schedules and arranges conference editor/agent appointments requested by CWA members. (Liaison and Appointment Coordinator is usually handled by two different people.)
Shepherding Committee: At the annual conference, miscellaneous people-managing jobs are required of volunteers and many helpers are needed. These include clock-watching (so speakers know when their allotted time is nearly up), bell-ringing when seminars are back in session, greeting new attendees (CWA members especially), and possibly handling any special needs of the keynote speaker.
Conference Publications Committee: Various conference-related publications are compiled/printed/ distributed each November. Committee members need not attend the conference. An Awards Banquet program is published, listing all contest certificate winners and the awards banquet agenda. A Conference Brochure is published, listing all events, sponsors, speakers and seminar agendas. Folder handouts are photocopied/colated. Photographers may be needed take pictures during the conference and send them to the newsletter editor and web mistress.
Autograph Party/Book Signing Committee: CWA and DWAA authors attending the conference contact the autograph party committee which then organizes the signing party at the CWA booth at the International CFA Cat Show. Chairperson coordinates booth site with CFA and book store sponsor, handles post-conference payment to CWA for book sales.
Awards Display: Chairperson collects and arranges for display at the annual conference all the Muse Medallion and special award winning entries. Volunteers may be needed to assist on site.
Registrations Coordinator: Coordinates registration forms and payments for the annual conference. Listed in conference publicity materials as contact person.
Recruitment Committee: Chairperson responsible for organizing and supervising CWA membership development program. Committee should be large enough to spread out the research/email duties. Works closely with CWA president and secretary.
Mentoring Committee: Chairperson directs new mentoring program for CWA members. Committee members retain mentor applications and help oversee.
Financial Planning Committee: Helps the president and treasurer analyze long-range and short-range financial needs and discuss finance-related options/ideas.
Publicity Coordinator: Promotes and publicizes CWA activities in close cooperation with the president.
Contest Committee: This committee is appointed by the contest chairperson from qualified volunteers, by February of each year. Committee receives contest entries, organizes and sends them to specific judges, solicits judges, reviews contest guidelines and procedures annually. Other related committee jobs include the Certificates Coordinator and Web Sites Liaison. The Contest Chair works closely with the president and initially commits to a two-year term.
